Over the years I’ve written a lot of “about us” videos, manifestos, etc. Here’s a recent example for the good folks doing good work at Project Canary.

Rowdy Mermaid went from bottles to cans, and Jay Ferracane of Angry Bovine and I helped them do so. Aren’t they pretty and clean? And I wrote the copy on the backs of each of these cans. Which I should figure out how to showcase here. But Squarespace and I aren’t the most telepathic of friends.

I launched sharklove.com in 2007 in response to a popular “no sharks” sticker seen in the Northern California surf community that really bothered me. I no longer maintain this site because I’m a flawed imperfect human I guess, so I need to give the keys to someone who wants to take it on and keep it going. Interested? I would like to see it flourish. I have a patent on the sticker and a trademark I would be happy to give to someone who wants to take over Sharklove. LMK.

I wish you could physically hold this book we made for Geek Squad. Fun and interactive, it served as a sort of “guide of best practices” for Best Buy’s armada of Geek Squad Agents, and won a few design awards. Another effort for Best Buy can be seen to the right - and it won the Cannes Advertising Festival’s Titanium Grand Prix (the top award) in 2009. I was Creative Director on both accounts, and I sure learned a lot.

July, 2016, near Revelstoke, BC. Last day of 6-Day TransBC Enduro - dubbed “world’s hardest enduro race.” This is me, no-doubt high on weed, going way faster than my bike-handling skills could really handle. This is one of my favorite photos of all time. I truly feel lucky for all the experiences that bike riding has afforded me. Always suffering from “imposter syndrome,” I can now - at 53 years old - see it differently. And man I’m glad I didn’t kill myself. There were some “moments” along the way, believe me. In fact, if you watch the “Breauxdureaux” video on this site, there were two episodes on that trip alone that almost meant lights out. Though I’m now shifting focus to a life of greater service and sobriety, it doesn’t change the fact that I sure had a lot of fun in those years, traveling all over riding and “racing” the best trails on earth... Even if most of it was drug-addled.

When Donald Trump won the election, I made this.

Before the clever folks at AHHA were known as “AHHA,” they asked GFC to help name their company – and AHHA was one of about a million options we showed them. I get to name a lot of companies and products, actually. This is just one example. #braggingnotbragging

In 2009 I launched my own full-blown social network called Be Fucking Awesome. It’s no longer on the web, but the idea was people would post their “FAdeeds” (fucking awesome deeds) and then the community would rate them. They’d then amass a personal rating (FAScore), that would show how much good they put into the world. It launched to press and fanfare, but when trolls found it about a week after launch, it ended up being a $35K learning experience. At the time, I honestly thought I would take on Facebook (I can be super naive). But hey, I was really super proud of it for about eight days. And I kind of still am. I wish you could see it.

This print inert, along with the execution below, was part of the legendary campaign we did for MINI Cooper at CP+B. What an honor to contribute to that campaign. Such a fun car and great strategy. Many awards were won with this campaign, these executions took their share too.

The GLAT - the “Google Labs Aptitude Test” was part of a solution for a recruitment problem Google was having back in 2005 where the brightest minds coming out of the best engineering schools weren’t interested in Google. This ad ran in super nerdy magazines, challenging egos of the smartest out there to see how they’d fare on the toughest math and science questions we could find. It included a way for them to literally send in their tests and, if they scored high enough we would contact them. The campaign worked amazingly well - and even found its way onto 60 minutes (see below).

For two years - 2017/2018 - I was one of a handful of national ambassadors for the road cycling apparel brand known as Rapha. It taught me a lot, and aligned with my career, affording me first-hand experience in the burgeoning marketing form where brand ambassadors are given product in exchange for their loyalty and efforts to promote said brand across their social media channels. The learning was invaluable and I’m beyond grateful for it. It was a stupendously fortunate bunch of years within an incredibly privileged, stars-enabled life. Lots of play in those days, for sure.

Somewhere in this scroll is a :60 commercial that’s part of this campaign too, for a hamburger made from tortured cows. I’m no longer proud that I worked on Burger King at all, but I did. Hey, even Aldo Leopold killed wolves before he saw the light.…

Somewhere in this scroll is a :60 commercial that’s part of this campaign too, for a hamburger made from tortured cows. I’m no longer proud that I worked on Burger King at all, but I did. Hey, even Aldo Leopold killed wolves before he saw the light. Anyway, as part of this campaign, I literally wrote this complete book - a spoof on motivational speakers and fad diets in one fell swoop. The book was literally for sale by calling a 1.800 number. It was funny and won awards and I used to be into that stuff.

This magazine ad (and the one to the right) were part of a five-piece insert effort for Molson Canadian’s “Making ‘Friends’” campaign. These pretty much swept the award shows that year - even earning the coveted $100K Grand Kelly award. How much of that did I see personally? Let’s just say I got a little envelope - literally “under the table.” The rest went toward flying everyone at CP+B to the Bahamas for the weekend. Those were some special days back then.

I was creative director on the Giro business for a few great years when I was at CP+B. It was an honor. This is another spread print ad or poster we made for the Giro Streif ski helmet. Hint: Zoom in on his eyes. ;-)

This outdoor board was one of five we came up with for Virgin Atlantic Airlines. Those super long “call out” lines being both the core of the fun idea, and one of the most challenging things the CP+B media team has ever had to pull off – as there was a maximum extendable area allowed, and we had to write new rules to make these happen. But that’s what CP+B was ALL ABOUT back then - doing whatever it took to disrupt. I learned SO MUCH at CP+B.

2015, I reckon. I got way, way into racing cyclocross for about three solid years and this was me at the top of my game. I won the Colorado State Champs that year in Masters Cat 3, got upgraded to Pro/1/2 and, goal attained, finally stopped starving…

Summer of 2020. Though I may never use it again as I’m trying to swear off flying for ecological reasons, I had to re-new my passport, and this is that pic. Here it serves as most recent pic of “me” – AKA my physical form.
